New literary magazine accepting submissions

RICHMOND -- Ledgetop Publishing is now taking submissions for its new literary magazine, upstreet, edited by Vivian Dorsel. Writers are invited to submit poetry, fiction, and nonfiction essays and memoirs for the first issue. There are no geographical restrictions on where submitting authors may live. Here are the guidelines:

Submissions must be postmarked on or before March 1, 2005.

Each submission must be legibly typed.

Each poem should be single spaced and appear on a separate page.

Fiction and nonfiction pieces must be 3,500 words or less, and double spaced.

The author's name should not appear anywhere on the manuscript.

Include a separate cover sheet for each prose piece or group of poems giving title of work, word count (for fiction and nonfiction), author's name, address, phone number, e-mail address, and a brief biographical note.

Please do not submit previously published works, or more than four poems, two fiction, and two nonfiction pieces.

Submissions will not be returned; send copies only.

With hard-copy submissions, enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope for notification, which will take place in May. E-mail submitters will be notified by e-mail.

Please e-mail work, preferably as a Microsoft Word attachment, to: Ledgetop@wordstreet.org

If work must be sent in hardcopy form, please mail it to: upstreet, P.O. Box 105, Richmond, MA 01254-0105.

The first issue of upstreet is expected to appear in mid-June. Each author whose work appears in the book will receive two complimentary copies, and will be able to purchase additional copies at a special author rate.

Dorsel, who founded Ledgetop Publishing earlier this year, is a writing course instructor for Word Street in Pittsfield
