• Anyway... Anyway... I'm not the Eagle theater critic, but I love theater -- so much so that I majored in theater in college. I go to lots of plays every summer, just for the pleasure of it. The production of George Bernard Shaw's play, "Heartbreak House," that is now running at the Berkshire Theatre Festival in Stockbridge is exceptional. I had been looking forward to it, knowing who was in the cast, and I was not disappointed. A few years ago, Anders Cato came to Stockbridge to direct Marin Hinkle in a new version of the classic, "Miss Julie," in the Unicorn Theatre at BTF -- I thought it was wonderful. The same team of director and actress returned for "Heartbreak House," with an ensemble of superb actors, including the very funny and poignant David Schramm. But for me, Hinkle was the heart of the show. What I loved about the production was how very funny it was. The scenery and costumes were excellent. But in the end, it had a very important point to make about war. It is a classic play, but it is easy to watch, very entertaining. Go see it. You won't be sorry, I promise. |
