Anyway... Anyway... Last week's issue had a story about a camp for dogs. As I was working on the story, I mentioned the camp quite a bit, and everyone thought it was a good idea. It’s easy to visualize dogs having lots of fun at camp, playing Frisbee or sitting around a campfire, chewing rawhide strips. But a camp for cats just wouldn't work. For one thing, cats are aloof. They prefer to recline gracefully while others run around getting hot and bothered. Cats enjoy watching birds from a window, with just a well-placed twitch of the tail to express their interest. Cats sprawl gracefully along the back of the couch, sneering at the dog as he goes through the sit, down, stay routine. Dogs are eager to please their human pals -- cats couldn't care less. And how many humans would it take to place the cat treats just so, fill the bowl when instructed, scoop the litter twice a day and turn on the faucets when a drink is needed? At least one human per cat, I would imagine. As for structured camp activities, my cat Harry says they are fine for canines, but his Siberian tiger ancestors would just laugh. There's no cat camp in his future. |
