Exhibits Exhibits Museums Animagic Anigmagic, the Berkshire's Museum of Animation, Special Effects and Art is a learning museum, showcasing Berkshire-based talent behind movies such as "The Matrix," "Predator," “X-Men,” “Chicken Run” and many others. Learn how special effects are made, see actual models from movies and TV commercials and learn how to create animation and special effects in the museum’s studio. "Meditation and Water Are Wedded Forever" is an exhibit of 13 prints of J.M.W. Turner seascapes that formerly belonged to Melville. Bennington Center for the Arts "Art of the Animal Kingdom VIII," an exhibition of approximately 60 pieces by artists from around the world, is on display through Aug. 24. Berkshire Museum "William Morris: Myth, Object and the Animal," an exhibition of large-scale glass installations by William Morris, is on display through Aug. 24. "Masters of Contemporary Glass," an exhibition featuring 16 prominent glass artists including Dale Chihuly, Thomas Patti, Lino Tagliapietra and Sonja Blomdahl, is on display through Sept. 1. "As Time Goes By: The Centennial of the Berkshire Museum," looks at the fun, quirky and extraordinary moments of the institution's history, on display in celebration of the Museum’s 100th year. "Beaded Identity: African Beadwork from the Antoinette Herber Collection," features the work of Ndebele, Zulu and Maasai bead artists primarily from the 1960s through the 1980s, is on display through Aug. 31. "Alexander Calder: An Artist at Play," an exhibition featuring nine of Calder's original toys, replicas of the toys, a workstation and two early Calder mobiles, on display as part of the permanent collection. Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum Take a 150-minute round-trip train ride from Lenox Station to Stockbridge narrated by a uniformed conductor, with a diesel locomotive and vintage standard gauge coaches from the 1920s. Bidwell House An elegant Georgian saltbox built c. 1750 as a parsonage for Adonijah Bidwell and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This beautifully restored house offers a collection of quality high country furnishings and decorative arts of the 18th and 19th centuries, and is surrounded by 196 acres of woods, gardens and hiking trails. A Chapel for Humanity Artist Eric Rudd's massive sculptural epic includes 150 life-size figures, fifty-four ceiling panels, and a 9/11 memorial, installated in a historic church. 82 Summer Street, North Adams. Chesterwood Country estate of leading artist Daniel Chester French, who created the "Abraham Lincoln" sculpture for the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. The house is furnished by French and his studio is filled with his tools. Sculpture is set within the landscaped grounds designed by French. The Barn Gallery showcases a large collection of sculpture. "Masterpieces of Sculpture," an exhibition of photographs by David Finn of sculptures by Daniel Chester French, will be on display through Oct. 31 in the Resource Area of the Barn Gallery. Sculpture Walking Tours, 45-minute tours of "Contemporary Sculpture at Chesterwood," an exhibition of sculpture on Chesterwood's grounds, will be given at 1 every Friday through Aug. 29. Clark Art Institute "Turner: The Late Seascapes," an exhibition exploring the last decade of British artist J.M.W. Turner's lifelong fascination with the power of the sea, featuring 45 oil paintings and watercolors, on display through Sept. 7. The permanent collection is focused on European and American painting, sculpture, works on paper, and decorative art from the Renaissance to the early 20th century. Dan Raymond House Home of a prosperous merchant and Loyalist turned Patriot run by the Sheffield Historical Society, the museum portrays the life of our Revolutionary founders in the late 18th century. Historic Beaver Mill, Route 8, North Adams (next to Natural Bridge State Park) The Emily Dickinson Museum The museum comprises the Dickinson Homestead, a historic house museum and the birthplace and home of the poet Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) and The Evergreens, the home of the poet's brother, Austin, and sister-in-law, Susan. The Folly at Field Farm A modern cottage designed in 1966 by Ulrich Franzen, the Folly at Field Farm, a property of the Trustees of Reservations, is open Saturdays from noon to 5, through Oct. 25. Frelinghuysen Morris House & Studio This art deco home located on a 46-acre estate bordering Tanglewood, features the European and American Cubist artwork and art collection of American Abstract Artists Suzy Frelinghuysen and George L.K. Morris, including Picasso, Leger & Braque. Hourly guided tours are given Thursday through Sunday from 10 to 3. Gateway to the Gilded Age "Twenty-three Great Estates," an exhibition of photographs is on display in the new Gateway to the Gilded Age, A Museum of Berkshire History, located at the Lenox Station, east end of Housatonic Street in Lenox. Hancock Shaker Village Twenty historic buildings and premiere collection of Shaker artifacts located on nearly 1,200 acres of farm and woodland. Daily programs include craft demonstrations, talks, tours, hands-on activities and in-character portrayals. Herb and heirloom vegetable gardens and farm animals illustrate Shaker agricultural techniques. "American Radiance: Fraktur from the Ralph Esmerian Gift to the American Folk Art Museum," an exhibition featuring 40 examples of fraktur, a colorful folk art form that represents a unique transplantation of German decorative texts to American soil, on display through Oct. 25. IS183 "The Body Project," the second annual exhibition of mixed media self-portraits created by participants in the Body Project, a collaboration between IS183 and the Railroad Street Youth Project, is on display. Mass MoCA "Yankee Remix," an exhibit created in collaboration with the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities, offers the work of nine artists who selected objects from SPNEA's collection and used them as inspiration for new works about American identity, history and collecting. "Fantastic!" presents five contemporary artists offering work of visionary social design in media ranging from photography to installation to public art. In conjunction with "Fantastic," the first US one-person exhibition of the work of French artist Alain Bublex, featuring selections from his series "Plug-in City (2000)," is on display through December in the Works on Paper and Meehan Galleries. The Mission House Home of John Sergeant, first missionary to the Stockbridge Mohican Indians, built in 1739. A garden designed by Fletcher Steele surrounds the house. The Mount -- Home of Edith Wharton The Mount, turn-of-the-century home of author Edith Wharton, offers "A Centennial Celebration: Designers Salute Edith Wharton and The Mount," featuring elegant furnishings in the restored rooms of The Mount's main and ground floors. Leading designers were invited to create interior designs based on Wharton’s book, "The Decoration of Houses." New this season, Edith Wharton’s bedroom suite has been restored but is not yet furnished. The extensive gardens have also been restored. Tours will be offered daily, 9 to 5, through Nov. 2. Naumkeag House and Gardens The historic 44-room summer home of Joseph Hodges Choate, New York lawyer and ambassador to Great Britain. Designed by Stanford White and built in 1886, Naumkeag is surrounded by 49 acres of gardens, greenhouses and farmland and houses period furniture, ceramics and artwork. Norman Rockwell Museum "Freedom: Norman Rockwell's Vermont Years," an exhibition exploring Rockwell’s life, art and relationships with other noted illustrators while living and working in Arlington, Vt., from 1939 through 1953, will be on display through Oct. 19. "The Berenstain Bears Celebrate: The Art of Stan and Jan Berenstain," an exhibition of images of the cartoon bears, is on display through Oct. 26. "Norman Rockwell's 322 Saturday Evening Post Covers," an exhibition featuring the complete tear sheet collection of Rockwell’s Saturday Evening Post covers, will be on display through Jan. 19. North Adams Museum Located at Western Gateway Heritage State Park, the museum features more than 25 exhibit areas including history and science hands-on discovery rooms, a Fort Massachusetts barracks room, military, political, religious, immigration, ballooning, industrial, farm and railroading exhibits. Park-McCullough House Historic 35-room mansion, built in 1865, housed four generations of one family, including two Vermont governors. The mansion features most of its original furnishings. The carriage barn displays 12 horse-drawn carriages, sleighs and fire equipment. Open to the public daily with tours on the hour between 10 and 3. Porter-Phelps-Huntington Museum The Porter-Phelps-Huntington Museum, containing the belongings of six generations of one extended family, portrays the activities of a wealthy and productive 18th century household and its evolution into an example of historic preservation. Quaker Meeting House The Quaker Meeting House was built in 1782 by the East Hoosuck Meeting of the Society of Friends. This was the place of worship of the family of Susan B. Anthony, whose ancestors were among the town's pioneer settlers. The building is essentially unchanged since its construction. Free guided tours are given by members of the Adams Historical Commission and the Adams Historical Society. Open Sundays in June, July and August from 1 to 4. Shaker Museum and Library The museum, which holds an important collection of Shaker artifacts, presents the exhibits, "In Our Humble Opinion: The Good-Better-Best of Shaker Collecting," including baskets, dolls, rugs, boxes and furniture, and "All at Home: Domestic Furniture of Mount Lebanon," featuring furniture made by the Mount Lebanon Shakers for their own use. Vermont Covered Bridge Museum Museum includes the exhibits "The Anatomy of the Covered Bridge," "The Artful Covered Bridge," “Covered Bridge Chronicles,” “The Natural Environment of the Covered Bridge,” “The Culture of the Covered Bridge” and more. Western Gateway Heritage State Park "The Most Famous Scenic Auto Highway in the Northeast," a new exhibit featuring artifacts, vintage postcard photographs and a computer database which offers visitors the opportunity to experience being a tourist traveling along the Mohawk and Taconic Trails during the last 100 years, will be on display through October. Visitors can explore the story of North Adams and the building of the Hoosac Tunnel, through the innovative audio-visual programs, artifacts, photographs and murals. William Cullen Bryant Homestead Historic house museum and 195 acre property of the Trustees of Reservations and the former boyhood home and adult summer residence of 19th century poet, William Cullen Bryant.
