Exhibits Exhibits Museums Animagic Ukrainian artists Maria Borisova and Victoria Sologubova will exhibit their classic and contemporary paintings and drawings through September. Anigmagic, the Berkshire's Museum of Animation, Special Effects and Art, showcases the Berkshire-based talent behind movies such as "The Matrix," "Predator," “X-Men,” “Chicken Run” and others. See the actual models from movies and TV commercials, view a real Academy Award, and learn how to create animation and special effects in the museum’s studio. Arrowhead Home of Herman Melville from 1850 to 1862, the house where "Moby-Dick" was written. "Meditation and Water Are Wedded Forever" is an exhibit of 13 prints of J.M.W. Bennington Center for the Arts "Floyd Scholz: Fine Art Bird Carvings" and "Art of the American Indian” are on display in the Laumeister Galleries. Berkshire Museum "A Garden of Gizmos," an interactive display of exhibits for the whole family that teach about the environment, including "The Beaded Waterfall,” "Groundhogs Ground,” “RabbitsRabbitsRabbits,” and more. On display Sept. 6 through Nov. 2. "Expressions of Culture" is a new exhibit of American and European paintings from the museum's permanent collection. "Alexander Calder: An Artist at Play," an exhibition featuring nine of Calder's original toys, replicas of the toys that can be used for open-ended play, a workstation for experimentation with the mechanisms the create the motion of the toys, and two early Calder mobiles, on display as part of the permanent collection. "As Time Goes By: The Centennial of the Berkshire Museum," looks at the fun, quirky and extraordinary moments of the institution's history in celebration of the Museum’s 100th year. Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum Take a 150-minute round-trip train ride from Lenox Station to Stockbridge narrated by a uniformed conductor, with a diesel locomotive and vintage standard gauge coaches from the 1920s. Bidwell House An elegant Georgian saltbox built c. 1750 as a parsonage for Adonijah Bidwell and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This beautifully restored house offers a collection of quality high country furnishings and decorative arts of the 18th and 19th centuries, and is surrounded by 196 acres of woods, gardens and hiking trails. A Chapel for Humanity Artist Eric Rudd's massive sculptural epic includes 150 life-size figures, 54 ceiling panels, and a 9/11 memorial, installated in a historic church. 82 Summer Street, North Adams. Chesterwood Country estate of leading artist Daniel Chester French, who created the "Abraham Lincoln" sculpture for the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. The house is furnished by French and his studio is filled with his tools. Sculpture is artfully set within the landscaped grounds designed by French. The Barn Gallery showcases a portion of what is probably the largest collection of work by any American sculptor. "Masterpieces of Sculpture," an exhibition of photographs by David Finn of sculptures by Daniel Chester French, will be on display through Oct. 31 in the Resource Area of the Barn Gallery. Clark Art Institute "Turner: The Late Seascapes," an exhibition exploring the last decade of British artist J.M.W. Turner's lifelong fascination with the power of the sea, featuring 45 oil paintings and watercolors, on display through Sept. 7. The permanent collection is focused on European and American painting, sculpture, works on paper, and decorative art from the Renaissance to the early 20th century. Dan Raymond House Home of a prosperous merchant and Loyalist turned Patriot run by the Sheffield Historical Society, the museum portrays the life of our Revolutionary founders in the late 18th century. Historic Beaver Mill, Route 8, North Adams (next to Natural Bridge State Park) The Emily Dickinson Museum The museum comprises the Dickinson Homestead, a historic house museum and the birthplace and home of the poet Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) and The Evergreens, the home of the poet's brother, Austin, and sister-in-law, Susan. Frelinghuysen Morris House & Studio This art deco home located on a 46-acre estate bordering Tanglewood, features the European and American Cubist artwork and art collection of American Abstract Artists Suzy Frelinghuysen and George L.K. Gateway to the Gilded Age "Twenty-three Great Estates," an exhibition of photographs is on display in the new Gateway to the Gilded Age, A Museum of Berkshire History, located at the Lenox Station, east end of Housatonic Street in Lenox. Hancock Shaker Village Twenty historic buildings and premiere collection of Shaker artifacts located on nearly 1,200 acres of farm and woodland. Daily programs include craft demonstrations, talks, tours, hands-on activities and in-character portrayals. Herb and heirloom vegetable gardens and farm animals illustrate Shaker agricultural techniques. "American Radiance: Fraktur from the Ralph Esmerian Gift to the American Folk Art Museum," an exhibition featuring 40 examples of fraktur, a colorful folk art form that represents a unique transplantation of German decorative texts to American soil, on display through Oct. 25. Mass MoCA "Yankee Remix," an exhibit created in collaboration with the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities, offers the work of nine artists who selected objects from SPNEA's collection and used them as inspiration for new works about American identity, history and collecting. On display through spring 2004. "Fantastic!" presents five contemporary artists offering work of visionary social design in media ranging from photography to installation to public art. "Plug-In City" is the first U.S. one-person exhibition of the work of French artist Alain Bublex, featuring selections from his series "Plug-in City (2000),” is on display through December in the Works on Paper and Meehan Galleries. The Mission House Home of John Sergeant, first missionary to the Stockbridge Mohican Indians, built in 1739. A garden designed by Fletcher Steele surrounds the house. The Mount -- Home of Edith Wharton The Mount, turn-of-the-century home of author Edith Wharton, offers "A Centennial Celebration: Designers Salute Edith Wharton and The Mount," featuring elegant furnishings in the restored rooms of The Mount's main and ground floors. Leading designers were invited to create interior designs based on Wharton’s book, "The Decoration of Houses." New this season, Edith Wharton’s bedroom suite has been restored but is not yet furnished. The extensive gardens have also been restored. Tours will be offered daily, 9 to 5, through Nov. 2. Naumkeag House and Gardens The historic 44-room summer home of Joseph Hodges Choate, an eminent New York lawyer and ambassador to Great Britain. Designed by Stanford White and built in 1886, Naumkeag is surrounded by 49 acres of gardens, greenhouses and farmland and houses premier collections of period furniture, ceramics from around the world and artwork by noted artists. Norman Rockwell Museum "Freedom: Norman Rockwell's Vermont Years," an exhibition exploring Rockwell’s life, art and relationships with other noted illustrators while living and working in Arlington, Vt., from 1939 through 1953, will be on display through Oct. 19. "The Berenstain Bears Celebrate: The Art of Stan and Jan Berenstain," an exhibition of images of the cartoon bears, is on display through Oct. 26. The exhibition examines the lives and careers of the husband-and-wife team, from their earliest drawings to their most recent works, and includes original drawings, paintings, collectibles, a book presented in storyboard format and a video documentary on Stan and Jan Berenstain produced by the Museum. "Norman Rockwell's 322 Saturday Evening Post Covers," an exhibition featuring the complete tear sheet collection of Rockwell’s Saturday Evening Post covers, will be on display through Jan. 19. North Adams Museum Located in an historic railroad freightyard at Western Gateway Heritage State Park, the museum features more than 25 exhibit areas including history and science hands-on discovery rooms, a Fort Massachusetts barracks room, military, political, religious, immigration, ballooning, industrial, farm and railroading exhibits. Park-McCullough House Historic 35-room mansion, built in 1865, housed four generations of one family, including two Vermont governors. The mansion features most of its original furnishings. The carriage barn remains unaltered. On display are 12 horse-drawn carriages, sleighs and fire equipment. Open to the public daily with tours on the hour between 10 and 3. Porter-Phelps-Huntington Museum The Porter-Phelps-Huntington Museum, containing the belongings of six generations of one extended family, portrays the activities of a wealthy and productive 18th century household. Shaker Museum and Library The museum, which holds an important collection of Shaker artifacts, presents the exhibits, "In Our Humble Opinion: The Good-Better-Best of Shaker Collecting," including baskets, dolls, rugs, boxes and furniture, and "All at Home: Domestic Furniture of Mount Lebanon," featuring furniture made by the Mount Lebanon Shakers for their own use. Spencertown Academy Judaic textile artist Wendy Rabinowitz will display her weavings /mixed media assemblages in an exhibition titled "Berkshire Landscapes: Hebrew Melodies," which is on display through Oct. 6. "Founders' Day: Artists Interpret Dr. Timothy Woodbridge," an exhibition of works in a range of media and styles by approximately 20 artists, interpreting the image and biography of Dr. Woodbridge. Ventfort Hall The Ventfort Hall Association is offering tours of the partially restored Gilded Age mansion which was featured in the film, "The Cider House Rules." The Vermont Covered Bridge Museum Exhibits including "The Anatomy of the Covered Bridge," "The Artful Covered Bridge," “Covered Bridge Chronicles,” “The Natural Environment of the Covered Bridge,” “The Culture of the Covered Bridge” are on display. A working covered bridge railroad layout and 3-D models and dioramas are on display. A small theater runs a film documentary about covered bridges. Western Gateway Heritage State Park "The Most Famous Scenic Auto Highway in the Northeast," a new exhibit featuring artifacts, vintage postcard photographs and a computer database which offers visitors the opportunity to experience being a tourist traveling along the Mohawk and Taconic Trails during the last 100 years, will be on display through October. Visitors can explore the story of North Adams and the building of the Hoosac Tunnel, through the innovative audio-visual programs, artifacts, photographs and murals.
