Anyway.... Anyway.... The sheep are leaving us -- and I think we'll all miss those colorful guests on the streets of Pittsfield. But do not despair -- there’s been talk at my house about replacing them with another great public art project next summer. Harry, our feline-in-charge, wants a Cat-tacular. Colorful, larger-than-life cats adorning the downtown. He thinks that would be a big improvement over the sheep. He also suggests eliminating automobile traffic -- he says everyone should walk up and down North Street, carrying a cat. I wonder how many Pittsfield residents would enjoy such a cat-centric experience? My suggestion for next summer's festivities is to decorate whales. Moby Dick returns. Arrowhead could be the center of some nautical activities and local restaurants could feature shipboard dishes. Or not. The artists would enjoy working on nice, smooth whales rather than woolly, bumpy sheep. It just seems a shame to let the sheep go, with no plan to move ahead with another great project. Is anyone ready to step forward and create the Cat-tacular or a Melville Moment? We've seen what success looks like -- let’s keep it going. |
